About this Show
George Burns and Gracie Allen met in 1922 when Burns was a struggling vaudeville performer. He quickly realized she was getting all the laughs and rewrote their act to make her the comedian and himself the straight man. Their first sustained radio series debuted September 1934 as The Adventures of Gracie on CBS. Gracie actually ran for President of the United States in 1940 as the candidate of the 'Surprise Party' — a stunt that became a national phenomenon and drew genuine write-in votes on Election Day. About 272 episodes survive.
