Why Old Time Radio Matters
These programs are more than entertainment. They are primary historical documents — recording American speech patterns, social attitudes, popular culture, and the national mood across four of the most consequential decades in modern history. From the Great Depression through World War II, the early Cold War, and the dawn of the Space Age, radio was the medium through which America understood itself.
Many of these recordings were saved from destruction by dedicated collectors who recognized their value before the networks did. Our digital preservation work ensures that future generations can hear these broadcasts as clearly as they were heard when first aired.
Public Domain & Copyright
The vast majority of Old Time Radio recordings in our archive are in the public domain. We research the copyright status of every recording we distribute. Where the status of a recording is unclear, we err on the side of caution. We maintain an active DMCA process and respond promptly to any legitimate copyright concerns.
