About this Show
Dragnet premiered on NBC Radio on June 3, 1949. Jack Webb conceived the show after playing a forensics expert in the 1948 film He Walked by Night. Webb worked with LAPD Chief William H. Parker to develop a show based on actual case files, with the department's full cooperation. Barton Yarborough played original partner Ben Romero until his death in 1951. The show ran new productions through September 1955. The television version premiered December 16, 1951, running simultaneously with the radio series.
