About this Show
The Hermit's Cave was created by Eric and Marie Howlett and premiered in September 1937 on WJR in Detroit. The show was syndicated by distributing scripts to other stations — meaning different cities broadcast different-cast versions of the same stories. The West Coast broadcast began in 1940 on KMPC in Los Angeles. John Dehner voiced the Hermit in the Los Angeles version from 1942–1944. William Conrad served as producer for the KMPC version. Over 800 episodes were produced across all stations; fewer than 40 survive.
