Vic and Sade

Created by Paul Rhymer and premiering on NBC on July 6, 1932, Vic and Sade ran for over 3,500 episodes through 1944. The show was unusual in that it required no studio audience, no laugh track, and no outside cast — three actors played virtually all roles for most of its run. Rhymer's writing is now considered some of the finest radio comedy ever produced, filled with running gags involving characters never seen on air (Uncle Fletcher, Y.Y. Flirch, Robert and Slobert Hink) and a surreal domestic universe. The show was canceled in 1944 when its sponsor dropped it, a decision lamented by critics for decades.
