About this Show
Captain Midnight was created by writers Wilfred G. Moore and Robert M. Burtt and launched as a syndicated program on October 17, 1938. Skelly Oil sponsored the early run; when it moved to Mutual nationally, Ovaltine took over as sponsor and the show's premium program became legendary. The show moved to NBC Blue in September 1942, then returned to Mutual in September 1945, where it remained until December 1949. Ivan Shark's final fate — eaten by a polar bear while the Captain watched from above — was appropriately dramatic.
