About this Show
Challenge of the Yukon (the show's original title) premiered locally on WXYZ on January 3, 1939. The program acquired Quaker Oats as sponsor and moved to ABC as a half-hour format on June 12, 1947. It transferred to Mutual on January 2, 1950, and was retitled Sergeant Preston of the Yukon in September 1950. Paul Sutton played Preston for most of the network run; Brace Beemer (also the voice of the Lone Ranger) took over for the final year. Fred Foy announced. Quaker Oats distributed legal deeds to one square inch of genuine Yukon Territory land as a premium in 1955 — later declared legally invalid by Canadian authorities.
