About this Show
Sky King was created by writers Robert Morris Burtt and Wilfred Gibbs Moore — the same team behind Captain Midnight — and premiered October 28, 1946, on ABC. Several actors voiced Sky King sequentially: Roy Engel, Jack Lester, Earl Nightingale (who later became a famous motivational speaker), and Carlton KaDell. The show's conceit of combining Western ranching with modern aviation proved durably appealing. The radio show ran simultaneously with the early television version (NBC, 1951–1962) before ending in 1954.
