Don Ameche was a suave and versatile film and radio actor who served as announcer and regular performer on The Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy Show. He had a distinguished film career at 20th Century Fox in the late 1930s and made a triumphant comeback in the 1980s, winning an Academy Award for Cocoon.
