Biography
James Maitland Stewart was born May 20, 1908 in Indiana, Pennsylvania. He appeared in 80 films from 1935 to 1991. During WWII he flew 20 combat missions over Germany, earning two Distinguished Flying Crosses. In 1953-54 he starred in NBC radio Western The Six Shooter as drifting cowboy Britt Ponset -- 39 episodes. William Conrad appeared in it under pseudonym Julius Krelboyne to avoid his CBS Gunsmoke contract. In 1959 Stewart became Brigadier General -- the highest-ranking entertainer in US military history. He died July 2, 1997.
