Biography
Lauren Bacall was born Betty Joan Perske on September 16, 1924 in the Bronx. She modeled before making her film debut in To Have and Have Not (1944) opposite Bogart. Director Howard Hawks trained her to speak with a lower voice by having her shout Shakespeare daily. Bacall and Bogart married May 21, 1945. Together they starred in Bold Venture (1951-1952), radio their only joint series -- 78 episodes on 423 stations earning 5000 weekly. She became a widow at 32 in 1957. She won a Tony Award for Broadway musical Applause in 1970. She died August 12, 2014 at age 89.
