Portland Hoffa

Comedian and radio actress; longtime partner and wife of Fred Allen on his weekly program.

Portland Hoffa was Fred Allen's real-life wife and radio partner, playing a gentle, slightly ditzy character on his program. Her comic chemistry with Allen was a cornerstone of the show, and her voice — deliberately high and innocent — served as a perfect foil for Allen's world-weary acidity.
