About this Show
Frontier Gentleman was created, written, produced and directed by Antony Ellis for CBS, running from February 2 to November 16, 1958, for 41 episodes.
John Dehner starred as J. B. Kendall, a veteran of the British Army in India now reporting on the American West for The Times of London. His outsider's eye let the show look at frontier life with dry wit and a certain moral distance. Jerry Goldsmith wrote the opening trumpet theme, with Wilbur Hatch and Goldsmith supplying series music.
The supporting players came from Hollywood radio's best: Harry Bartell, Lawrence Dobkin, Virginia Gregg, Joseph Kearns, Jack Kruschen, Jeanette Nolan, Vic Perrin and Barney Phillips. It belongs to the adult Western movement that Gunsmoke started, grittier and aimed at grown-ups.
Dehner's cool, literate Kendall makes this one of the late-radio Westerns most worth seeking out.
