About this Show
Candy Matson, YUkon 2-8209 aired on NBC's West Coast network from June 29, 1949, to May 20, 1951, produced at KNBC in San Francisco. It was written, directed and produced by Monty Masters, who cast his wife Natalie Masters as Candy.
Candy was a wisecracking private eye with a penthouse on Telegraph Hill. Jack Thomas played her friend and assistant Rembrandt Watson, and Henry Leff played Lieutenant Mallard of the San Francisco police. Every show opened with a ringing phone and Candy answering with her number before the organ swung into the theme.
The show was very popular in San Francisco and often among the top-rated programs on the West Coast. Of 92 episodes, only 14 survive, plus the April 1949 audition and a 1952 audition for a revival that did not sell.
A woman private eye leading her own series was rare, and Candy's wit keeps it lively.
