About this Show
Damon Runyon died in 1946, but his stories lived on through adaptations across media. The CBS radio series premiered in 1949, two years after the author's death, and ran through 1953. Narrator John Brown captured Runyon's unusual narrative voice — always present tense, always third person — that had become famous through the film Guys and Dolls. The show was considered one of the more faithful adaptations of Runyon's work, preserving his unique Broadway slang and moral universe where small-time criminals had hearts of gold.
