About this Show

Dangerous Assignment started as a seven-week NBC summer series, premiering July 9, 1949. It returned on February 6, 1950, and ran until July 8, 1953, for at least 160 episodes in its American run.

Brian Donlevy starred as Steve Mitchell, a special agent sent around the world on secret missions, and Herb Butterfield played the Commissioner who gave him his orders throughout the run. Each episode dropped Mitchell into a new foreign city and a new intrigue.

Donlevy formed his own company to make a syndicated television version, 39 episodes for the 1951–52 season, after no network would invest. In 1954 the radio series was revived in Australia, where 39 episodes were produced from the American scripts.

It is brisk Cold War escapism, carried by Donlevy's hard-edged voice.
