About this Show
Jack Benny (born Benjamin Kubelsky in 1894 in Waukegan, Illinois) had established himself as a comedian in vaudeville before his radio debut. His own show launched on NBC Blue on May 2, 1932. Eddie Anderson joined as Rochester Van Jones in 1937, and the character became one of the most complex African American roles on network radio. Dennis Day debuted October 8, 1939. In 1948, CBS president William Paley executed the famous 'raid' on NBC talent, luring Benny with favorable tax arrangements. The March 28, 1948 episode was selected for the Library of Congress National Recording Registry. Benny's TV program proved equally successful.
