About this Show
Jeff Regan, Investigator aired on CBS in two runs: July 10 to December 18, 1948, and October 5, 1949, to August 27, 1950. Regan was a private investigator working for a detective agency run by Anthony J. Lyon.
Jack Webb played Regan in the 1948 run, a year before Dragnet reached the air. By writer William Froug's account, Webb was let go after asking for a $15 raise. Frank Graham took over in 1949, with Paul Dubov filling in for several weeks, and Lyon was played first by Wilms Herbert and later by Frank Nelson.
E. Jack Neuman and Larry Roman were among the writers; Sterling Tracy and Gordon T. Hughes produced and directed. The series ended after Graham's death on September 2, 1950, and the role was never recast.
Hear it for Webb before Joe Friday, and for Graham's able second act.
