About this Show
The Shadow originated as the mysterious narrator of a 1930 radio anthology program. The Mutual half-hour mystery series launched September 26, 1937, with the 22-year-old Orson Welles playing the Shadow. Agnes Moorehead's Margo Lane was intelligent, wry, and formidably capable. Welles departed in 1938 to pursue theatrical work. Bret Morrison held the role from 1944 to 1954 and became the voice most listeners associate with the character. The show ran 17 years on Mutual — approximately 815 episodes.
