About this Show
Bold Venture was produced for Humphrey Bogart's Santana Productions and syndicated by the Frederic W. Ziv Company, beginning March 26, 1951. Ziv distributed 78 transcribed half-hour episodes, and the recorded format suited Bogart, who had resisted the time demands of a live weekly show.
Bogart played Slate Shannon, owner of a Havana hotel and of the boat the Bold Venture, and Lauren Bacall played Sailor Duval, his ward. Treasure hunters, revolutionaries and modern-day pirates kept them busy, while calypso singer King Moses, played by Jester Hairston, sang musical bridges that commented on the plot.
Morton Fine and David Friedkin wrote the scripts. Within weeks of its debut it was reportedly carried by 423 stations.
It is the one place to hear Bogart and Bacall trade lines week after week.
