About this Show
Nick Carter was already a veteran of dime novels and pulps when Mutual brought him to radio on April 11, 1943, first as The Return of Nick Carter and soon as Nick Carter, Master Detective. The series ran until September 25, 1955.
Lon Clark played Nick for the entire run. Helen Choate was his assistant Patsy Bowen until mid-1945, when Charlotte Manson took over; John Kane played reporter Scubby Wilson and Ed Latimer played Sergeant Mathison. Jock MacGregor produced and directed.
Scripts came from Alfred Bester, Milton J. Kramer, David Kogan and others, and Walter B. Gibson, the man behind The Shadow's pulp novels, became head writer in 1946. A weekday spin-off, Chick Carter, Boy Detective, ran on Mutual from 1943 to 1945.
Twelve years of brisk, puzzle-driven detection make this a dependable listen.
