About this Show
Night Beat premiered February 6, 1950, on NBC, sponsored by Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer and Wheaties. It ran until September 25, 1952, producing approximately 100 episodes. The show was set in Chicago — an unusual choice that gave it a different urban atmosphere from the New York or Los Angeles settings that dominated radio crime drama. The show ended not because of poor ratings but because of network pressure to reduce sustaining drama as television encroached on radio's audience.
