About this Show
Counterspy premiered on ABC in 1942 during the height of World War II fears about Axis sabotage and espionage. Don MacLaughlin played David Harding for most of the run, projecting calm competence in the face of elaborate spy schemes. The show shifted its villains from Axis agents to Communist operatives as the Cold War replaced WWII, demonstrating remarkable adaptability. It ran through 1957, making it one of the longer-running spy dramas of radio's golden age. The show's signature closing line — "Harding of the Counterspy" — became a radio catchphrase.
